Why the roof and not the walls?

The roof is the largest flat surface on the rig and the one you never look at. Southern California sun bakes the membrane and dries the sealant along every seam and every roof-mounted fixture.

Add the constant flex of towing up the 5 and the 91, and the sealant at the front cap, the vents, and the AC shroud cracks first. Water finds those gaps long before a wall panel would ever fail on its own.

What is the usual sequence of failure?

• Sealant at seams and fixtures dries, shrinks, and splits
• Water wicks under the membrane at the edge or the front cap
• The roof decking softens and the membrane loses its bond
• Moisture reaches the ceiling, then the upper wall lamination
• A stain finally appears inside, long after the leak began

Why does chasing the interior stain never work?

The stain is where water arrived, not where it entered. Sealing the ceiling from below traps moisture and hides the real path while the decking keeps rotting.

The leak almost always sits several feet away and uphill, at a seam or a fixture base. You have to find that entry point to actually stop it.
